SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT   Some materials are recyclable and some biodegradable but most end up in land-fill or the oceans and the programs developed to date to recycle all materials are having limited success. While products and subsystems are disassemblable components are often made by fusing materials together in ways that are not reversible. Recycling then requires a high energy cost and/or process complexity that is uneconomic. The logistics that distributes materials, components and products around the world is, with few exceptions, not closed cycle as the logistical systems do not return products to their place of manufacture. This can be resolved when only recyclable or biodegradable materials are used; components are made to be disassembed; all parts, assemblies and products are fully labelled including specifications (as per the ISO STEP standards); assembly and disassembly are highly automated, logistics is fully automated and reversible for recovering defunct products as well as faulty/repairable products.
